The RESILEX project will hold its final webinar to present innovative solutions across the critical raw materials value chain
On 17 July at 11:00 AM, the European RESILEX project will hold its final webinar, entitled “New PV solutions, battery components and raw materials.” This event will mark the conclusion of the project and will provide an overview of the main results achieved throughout its development.
During the session, the concrete results of the project, validated through pilot projects, will be presented, covering the entire value chain of silicon and critical raw materials. These advances contribute to the development of a model aimed at a more resilient and circular economy in Europe.
The event will bring together the consortium partners and professionals from the fields of raw materials, mining, recycling, photovoltaics and energy storage to share the progress achieved in different pilot demonstrators and analyse their potential to drive a more efficient and competitive circular economy.
The event will also feature the participation of Laura Quijano, Project Manager at the National Cluster for Sustainable Mining in the Iberian Peninsula (ISMC), who will act as moderator of one of the webinar sessions, facilitating knowledge exchange between experts, researchers and industry representatives.
Innovative solutions for a more sustainable value chain
During the webinar, the main results developed by the project partners will be presented, structured around four major areas of innovation:
Recovery of critical raw materials from mining waste
CETAQUA will present a low-cost chemical-biological treatment technology capable of recovering high-value metals, such as zinc, copper, cobalt and nickel, from acidic waters originating from mining operations. This solution enables the transformation of an environmental liability into a new source of raw materials for industry.
Advanced recycling of photovoltaic panels
Groupe Comet will present a logistics and metallurgical process designed to recover high-purity silicon from end-of-life solar panels. The integration of these waste streams into existing recycling infrastructures represents a significant step towards more efficient resource management.
Eco-design to facilitate the recycling of photovoltaic modules
CEA-INES will present a 60-cell photovoltaic module prototype with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL 7), designed to simplify recycling at the end of its useful life. The use of innovative materials, such as thermoplastic encapsulants, fluorine-free back sheets and lead-free interconnections, enables a reduction of between 20% and 25% in its carbon footprint.
New materials for lithium-ion batteries
The GREEnMat laboratory of the University of Liège will present a solution to valorise silicon recovered from recycled photovoltaic panels by transforming it into silicon-carbon anodes for high-capacity lithium-ion batteries, thereby closing the loop in the utilisation of this strategic material.
A European project to strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy
RESILEX works to promote a more resilient and circular critical raw materials value chain through the development of innovative technologies that support the recovery, reuse and recycling of essential resources for the energy and digital transitions.
The final webinar represents an opportunity to learn first-hand about the results achieved by the consortium and the potential of these solutions to contribute to greater European strategic autonomy, reducing dependence on virgin raw materials and promoting more sustainable industrial models.
