El consorcio RESILEX se reúne en Sevilla para impulsar la cadena de valor del silicio en Europa
The partners of the RESILEX project gathered on 12 March in Seville for a consortium meeting organised by the Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC), coordinator of the initiative.
The meeting, held at the Occidental Sevilla Viapol Hotel, brought together leading European organisations from industry, research and innovation to review the project’s progress and align on the next steps towards strengthening a resilient and sustainable silicon value chain in Europe.

Advancing innovation across the silicon value chain
Throughout the day, partners presented updates on the different work packages, addressing key technological and strategic areas for Europe’s raw materials ecosystem.
Discussions focused on:
- the recovery of valuable and critical raw materials in the mining industry,
- sustainable silicon production processes,
- the development of eco-designed solar cells and photovoltaic modules,
- silicon recycling from end-of-life PV modules, and
- the creation of high-efficiency silicon-based composites for lithium-ion batteries.
In addition, the consortium reviewed progress on impact assessment and EU policy recommendations, as well as dissemination, exploitation and scale-up strategies, ensuring alignment with European priorities on sustainability, circularity and strategic autonomy.
The meeting concluded with a joint discussion among partners to define the next steps and reinforce collaboration across the project.

Connecting research with industrial reality: visit to Tharsis Mining
On 13 March, consortium partners travelled to Tharsis Mining (Huelva, Spain) for a technical site visit. This activity provided valuable insight into real mining operations and their role within the European raw materials value chain.
The visit enabled participants to better understand how innovative solutions developed within RESILEX can be connected to industrial environments, supporting more sustainable and efficient resource management.
ISMC leading coordination of RESILEX
As coordinator of the RESILEX project, ISMC plays a key role in facilitating collaboration between partners and ensuring the successful implementation of the project’s objectives.
RESILEX aims to enhance Europe’s capacity to secure and process silicon and related materials through innovative, circular and sustainable approaches, contributing to the EU’s ambitions for strategic autonomy in critical raw materials and the green and digital transitions.
