ISMC Drives Strategic Alliances in Mauritania
Patricia Núñez Cortés, Coordinator of Institutional Relations at the ISMC Cluster, took an active part in the international diplomatic training programme organised by the Diplomatic Academy of Mauritania, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania. The event, titled “Mauritania and its International Environment: Strategic Relations with the European Union, Spain and the Sahel”, brought together high-level institutional representatives and leading academic experts.

During her address, Núñez Cortés — who also served as Permanent Delegate to the European Union — analysed the current state of relations between the European Union and Mauritania, highlighting the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in a context marked by energy and geopolitical challenges.
One of the key focuses of her presentation was the strategic potential of Mauritania’s natural resources, with particular emphasis on the development of renewable energies, especially solar power, as well as the enhancement of its mineral wealth: iron, gold, copper, uranium, and diamonds.

The event was attended by Prof. Abdel Kader Mohamed Ahmed Qanouni, Director General of the Diplomatic Academy of Mauritania, and a senior representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for international strategy.
Also in attendance were distinguished international academics, including:
Elena Díaz Galán, Rey Juan Carlos University
Harold Bertot Triana, UNIE University
Lucía Mantecón, Rey Juan Carlos University

For the ISMC Cluster, this participation represents a strategic opportunity to establish new institutional partnerships, enhance international visibility, and foster collaborative projects in key sectors such as the energy transition, sustainable mining, and science diplomacy.
