Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster Hosts C-SINK Workshop on Nature-Based Solutions in A Coruña
A Coruña, 7 May 2025 – The Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC) hosted the C-SINK project workshop at the Eurostars Atlántico Hotel in A Coruña, bringing together leading experts from the scientific, institutional, and business sectors to explore the potential of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) as key technologies for carbon dioxide removal (CDR-T), in alignment with the goals of the European Green Deal.

The event, part of the C-SINK project funded by the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement no. 101080377), featured presentations on pilot case studies including reforestation initiatives, plant-bacterial consortia for phytoremediation, and methodologies for assessing the total economic value of NBS.
Representing ISMC were Laura Quijanos, Technical Coordinator of the cluster, and Catalina Hernández Moreno, who welcomed participants and actively contributed to the technical sessions and roundtable discussions.

Key topics addressed during the workshop included:
Panel discussions on the benefits, risks, and synergies of NBS.
Technical sessions on Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) methods for carbon removal.
Insights into European regulatory frameworks such as the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF).
Case studies on rural offsetting projects and climate change adaptation strategies.

Meet the participants and sessions held during the event:
Rubén Leboreiro Amaro & José Luis Gallego (EDAFOTEC/UNIOVI): Artificial soils and the C-SINK pilot
Darina Styriakova (EKO): Microbial carbon fixation and pilot case studies in C-SINK
