ISMC Begins a New Chapter with the Renewal of Its Board of Directors
The Iberian Cluster for Sustainable Mining and Associated Services (ISMC) held an Extraordinary Board Meeting this Thursday at the Vincci Soho Hotel in Madrid. This key meeting structured the working dynamics of the institution’s new leadership, made strategic decisions to strengthen the cluster’s future, and reinforced its leadership in the sustainable mining sector.
During this meeting in the capital, the new Board of Directors resolved the appointment of new roles, the definition of responsibilities, and the operational reorganisation of the cluster in a context of growth and international expansion. “Key issues such as the management of European funds, the strengthening of strategic alliances, the creation of working committees, and the optimisation of internal operations have been addressed with the aim of consolidating ISMC’s position as a benchmark in the sector,” highlighted ISMC’s General Director, physicist and technologist Santiago Cuesta López.

Meanwhile, Álvaro Serrano, CEO of the mining company SALORO, based in Barruecopardo, Salamanca, took office as the new Chairman of the cluster’s Board of Directors and commented, “We take on this new challenge with a firm commitment to continue strengthening the cluster and consolidating our presence in international markets.”
The year 2024 was decisive for ISMC, as it established itself as one of the main recipients of funds in Spain and expanded its international presence by participating in 18 European projects. “Over the past year, the management of €2.4 million in European funds and the mobilisation of €6.6 million in direct investment in R&D&I projects for our members have reflected the cluster’s commitment to innovation and technological development,” added Cuesta López.
Similarly, Isabel Carrero, manager of the consulting firm Qualifica2, based in Huelva and the newly appointed Vice-Chair of the association, emphasised that “the growth of ISMC is a reflection of the collective effort of the associated companies and their commitment to innovation.”
For his part, Aurelio de Grado, Director of the Valladolid-based technology centre PINACAL INSER and newly appointed Secretary of the cluster, stressed that “we will work to expand our alliances and continue attracting investment and opportunities for all our members.”
The new Board of Directors comprises representatives from key companies in the sector across the country, including Aminer, Comet Global Innovation, Cubicoff, PINACAL INSER, Qualifica2, EPC España, TECMINA, Leonore Development, Terradat Geophysics, Fundación ICAMCyL, IP Control, and Saloro.
Finally, Cuesta López emphasised, “ISMC is today a benchmark in sustainable mining and the circular economy. Our vision is to continue generating a positive impact in the sector.” A sector that, as Serrano concluded, “is shedding its taboos, and society is increasingly recognising its essential role.”
