The Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC) participated in the official launch of the DEXPLORE project, a transformative initiative aimed at revolutionising the exploration of critical minerals in Europe, which are key to the continent’s economic decarbonisation.
The DEXPLORE project consortium recently gathered at the Kick-off Meeting to officially start this ambitious initiative, which aims to improve the discovery rate of critical minerals essential for the transition to a decarbonised economy. This innovative project combines cutting-edge technologies and disruptive approaches in mineral exploration.
DEXPLORE employs optical detection assisted by UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), advanced earth observation techniques, and novel deep geophysics methods to explore depths of up to 600 metres, aiming to propose updated models of mineral deposits. Additionally, the project features an integrated visualisation platform that combines geological, remote sensing, and geophysical data with extended reality, enhancing public access and awareness of mineral exploration.
The event featured a key intervention by Floriana La Marca from the EU Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), who highlighted the strength of the collaboration between partners and the shared vision to enhance the EU’s strategic autonomy through sustainable mining exploration.
This project promises to transform the way mineral resources are explored in Europe, opening up new opportunities for the discovery and sustainable management of the materials essential for the energy transition. We are excited to be part of this globally impactful project!
