ISMC Coordinates the Launch of the European PERMANET Project – ISMC-IBERIAN SUSTAINABLE MINING CLUSTER

Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC) is involved in the launch of PERMANET, an innovative European project aimed at establishing a sustainable network for the innovation and supply of rare earth elements (REEs), with the goal of driving advancements in sustainability and innovation across the entire value chain of permanent magnets.

This week, the Kick-off Meeting for the PERMANET project was held at the headquarters of Técnicas Reunidas, a cluster partner, in Madrid. This pioneering project aims to build a sustainable network for the innovation and supply of rare earth elements (REEs), specifically for the production of permanent magnets (PMs), which are critical for key sectors such as electric mobility, energy, and industrial equipment.

The event was attended by Milan Grohol, EU Commission Policy Officer, and Carolina Rodríguez, Project Officer for PERMANET at the EU Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), who welcomed the consortium and presented the European guidelines for the implementation of the project.

PERMANET covers the entire REE value chain, promoting advancements in sustainability, innovation, and supply. The consortium consists of 33 partners, representing key players in the rare earth ecosystem, including companies, universities, clusters, research organisations, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The project, funded by the European Commission, is coordinated by Técnicas Reunidas with the support of ISMC. Additionally, Leonore Development, one of our partners, plays a crucial role in the innovation and refinement of sustainable REEs from mineral deposits and mining tailings.
