Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC) is one of the entities in the consortium of the new European project WIDEX, which aims to develop sustainable solutions and green technologies to address the growing demand for critical minerals in Europe. The inaugural meeting was held in Košice, Slovakia.
The Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC) participated in the kick-off meeting of WIDEX, the European project representing an ambitious collaborative effort to tackle the increasing demand for strategic minerals in key sectors of the European economy. The meeting took place in Košice, Slovakia, a region rich in geological reserves and home to the prestigious Technical University of Košice, a leading institution in mining and innovation.
WIDEX aims to promote the development of green and non-invasive technologies for the extraction and refining of critical raw materials (CRMs) within European borders, aligning with the guidelines of the European Raw Materials Act. It also seeks to reduce dependence on external resources while fostering environmental and economic sustainability in the sector.
Among the highlighted initiatives of the project are the creation of a new cluster in Central Europe, a Virtual Centre, and a stakeholders’ platform, all focused on the ecosystem of sustainable technologies. Additionally, the consortium will develop the WIDEX WHITEBOOK, a compendium of learnings and strategies designed throughout the duration of the project.
