SMC participates in the event on the European Critical Raw Materials Act and its impact on the industrial value chain in Castilla y León
On April 24, the historic Casa Revilla in Valladolid hosted a key debate on the European Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) and its implications for Castilla y León’s industrial value chain. Organised by the Asociación para la Transición Energética and the Grupo Español de Materias Primas Estratégicas y Críticas (GEMPEc), the event brought together industry leaders, institutions, and experts, including ISMC, to explore the opportunities and challenges of this new European regulation.
The session opened with speeches from Jesús Jiménez Miguel, Director General of Industry at the Regional Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Employment, and Yolanda Moratilla, President of GEMPEc. The closing remarks were delivered by the Vice President of the Junta de Castilla y León, Juan García-Gallardo Frings.
A highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring Gerardo Herrera, representative of the European Commission, alongside key industry figures such as Tomás Vecillas Fernández from the Barruecopardo mine, SALORO SLU. Geologist Ramón Cabrera shared valuable insights into Castilla y León’s strategic mineral resources, underlining the region’s potential to develop industrial value chains.
The discussion also provided a platform to exchange ideas on implementing the CRMA and its role in achieving Europe’s decarbonisation, digitalisation, and regional development goals. This cross-sectoral approach aims to position Castilla y León as a benchmark for sustainability and industrial competitiveness.
The event was supported by institutions and companies such as the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros de Minas de Centro de España, Fundación ICAMCyL, and the Iberian Sustainable Mining Cluster (ISMC).
This type of gathering highlights the region’s commitment to adapting to European challenges, strengthening collaboration among key industry stakeholders, and ensuring a sustainable and resilient supply of critical raw materials.
